Septuagenarian killed while cycling to work

GEORGE TOWN - A septuagenarian, who was on his way to help his friend with some renovation work, died in an accident along the notoriously busy stretch of Jalan Masjid Negri.

Low Kee Lai, 75, was cycling when he was knocked down by a motorist. He died at the scene of the accident from head injuries.

He had earlier turned into the road from Jalan Hamilton before a Perodua MyVi grazed his bicycle, causing him to lose his balance before falling off his bicycle.

Another car which followed closely from behind collided into him in the 9.30am tragedy yesterday.

Both drivers were unhurt.

The victim's son Teik Hock, 37, said the family had often advised Low to stay at home and not to take up any odd jobs due to his old age.

"But my father said he was bored at home.

"He wanted to do something to pass his time," said Teik Hock at the Penang Hospital mortuary.

A police spokesman confirmed the case, saying that the investigation was ongoing.
