Single parents receive cash incentive to remarry

At least 600 single mothers and fathers in Terengganu received RM2,000 (S$770) each from the state government as an incentive for them to remarry, Mingguan Malaysia reported.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who presented the incentive payment to the inaugural batch of recipients at a ceremony held in Kuala Terengganu on Saturday, said the state government was the first in the country to offer the incentive and had so far allocated RM1.2mil for the payments.

Ahmad said the incentive was to encourage the group to find new life partners as the state government was concerned about their happiness.
