Stranded man's ordeal over after he was allowed to re-enter Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: The 54-day ordeal of stranded Ahmed Kanan at the KLIA transit area has ended with him being allowed to re-enter Malaysia.

Immigration Director-General Datuk Alias Ahmed permitted the 22-year-old Palestine passport holder to stay in the country for 30 days on humanitarian grounds after his plight was highlighted in The Star.

Alias also agreed to review Ahmed's three-year ban from entering Malaysia for overstaying previously.

Ahmed who was detained at the airport immigration holding area for 24 hours was freed at 4pm yesterday when Palestinian Am­­bassador to Malaysia Abdal Aziz Aboughosh picked him up.
