Surrender yourself, 30m-high crane climber in Ipoh urged

IPOH - Police are calling on the youth who climbed to the top of a crane at the construction site of a convention centre here to turn himself in for questioning.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said police were still investigating to identify the youth who scaled the 30m-high crane and recorded his daredevil stunt in a video.

In the one-minute-and-22-second clip, he sat down upon reaching the top and continued the recording, revealing several notable landmarks in the background.

"I am urging those who have a passion for hiking and climbing to please pursue your hobby at a legal site instead of trespassing into gazetted areas and breaking the law," ACP Sum said.

He was speaking at a press conference yesterday after a 34-year-old security guard of the construction site lodged a report.

ACP Sum added that the youth was not from the group of eight who had earlier scaled the "Ipoh" sign atop Gunung Lang in Jalan Kuala Kangsar.

He urged those with information on the incident to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangering the safety of others and Section 447 of the Penal Code for trespassing.
