Suspected thief badly burned after he tried to steal cables from electric pole

MIRI, MALAYSIA -  A middle-aged man sustained burns all over his body after he tried to steal copper cables from an electricity pole along the main road of Jalan Trusan near Lawas town on Monday.

He was found trapped between the power lines in the 11pm incident which also caused a blackout in Trusan village.

The Lawas Fire and Rescue Department said it was alerted by passers-by who had seen the man dangling from the 15m-high pole.

The man was still alive but badly burnt in the mishap.

He was rushed to the Lawas Hospital and police have been notified about the incident.

Electricity was restored after repairs were carried out by Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation technicians.
