Two arrested over 'ketum leaves'

JOHOR - Johor police have seized a box of herbal leaves which could be used to make stimulants and painkillers, and have arrested two men who are suspected of planning to distribute the drugs in the state.

A box of ketum leaves, weighing 10kg, can be used to make traditional remedies as well as recreational drugs and opiates.

The arrests were made while the suspects, both working at a factory in Singapore, were loading the box into the booth of a car in Gelang Patah, at around 3pm last Wednesday.

Nusajaya district police chief Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad said the suspects, aged 30 and 44, did not have any criminal records. Both have been remanded for four days.
