Two men killed in separate shooting incidents

KULAIJAYA - M. Magen, 32, and a friend were returning to the latter's house at 3am yesterday when they were confronted by two men.

One of the men started shooting at Magen. The assailants fled on a motorcycle after Magen collapsed.

The friend rushed Magen to the Kulai Hospital but he died soon after.

Sources said that police were looking at several possible motives, including drug-related and revenge-driven.

Kulaijaya acting OCPD Supt Tan Moh Cuan confirmed the incident and urged those with information to contact the Kulaijaya police hotline at 07-6632222.

In the other incident, a jobless man was killed in a drive-by shooting at Desa Ria Flat in Jalan PJS 5/18 in Petaling Jaya on Saturday night.

One of four bullets hit 27-year-old S. Suresh on the head.

Cousin G. Chandra Kumaran, 19, brother Silva Kumar, 43, and neighbour J. Gunasegaran, 33, escaped unhurt.

Prior to the attack, the four men were chatting outside their flat unit on the ground floor.

Chandra Kumaran said he had seen the car driving past them five times but he did not suspect anything amiss.

"I noticed that the lights were turned off the last time the car came around. That was when the driver wound down the window and started shooting.

"I don't know who he was targeting. Suresh never said anything about having enemies, so it is hard to suspect anyone," he said.

In Penang, a fishmonger escaped an attack in Bayan Baru, Balik Pulau, at 2.30pm yesterday.

The victim sought cover when he saw a pillion rider shouting at him and pulling out a gun before firing a shot.

Police believed the motorcyclist and his pillion rider could be runners of a loan shark.
