Umno condemns Israel's Gaza attacks

KUALA LUMPUR - Umno has condemned Israel's attacks on Gaza, reiterating its support for the struggle to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people.

Party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it strongly backed the Government's stand to continue helping the Palestinians achieve their aim of a sovereign homeland.

"Umno also condemns in the strongest terms the cruelty of the Zionist regime in their attacks on civilians which have killed so many people," said Najib after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting at party headquarters here yesterday.

Umno, he said, would also provide aid to the victims of the Israeli attacks and hold solat hajat, to be organised by each division.

The party's three vice-presidents also expressed their sympathy to the victims and condemned the attacks.

"In the spirit of humanity in this blessed month of Ramadan, let us unite to condemn the violence towards our brothers in Gaza.

"May they be given strength to face this challenge," said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal called on all Malaysians to express their support for the Palestinians.

"I am disgusted by the attacks because if at all, this (attack) was a retaliation against the death of Israeli teenagers.

"The law should be allowed to take its course, rather than this blanket death warrant on all Palestinians," said Shafie.

On Twitter, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein issued several messages in support of the Palestinians.
