Water cannons fired in Petaling Street as crowd turns unruly

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) fired water cannons in Petaling Street as the crowd of protesters there turned unruly.

Bottles were reported to have been thrown by protesters and some were seen to be bleeding due to the commotion before the FRU fired the cannons at 4.53pm.

Earlier Wednesday, protesters in Petaling Street and in vicinity of Pavilion had tried to break through barricades set up by the police.

Police constantly told the group at Petaling Street to be patient but some of the protestors were heard to be shouting "masuk masuk" (enter enter) and "hidup melayu".

"Why can't we enter Petaling Street. We want! It's Malay rights!" said some of the protesters there.
