Woman in '$813,300 in car boot' case released

PADANG BESAR: The woman arrested in connection with the recovery of RM2.4mil (S$813,274) cash inside the boot of a sport utility vehicle along the Ulu Pauh-Padang Besar road has been released on police bail.

Bukit Aman CID's anti-money laundering department chief Senior Asst Comm Khalil Azlan Chik said the woman, in her early 50s, had been released yesterday after she gave her statement.

"She was remanded for two days after her arrest on Thursday. The two men detained after the money was found in their vehicle have been remanded for six days.

"We are investigating the case under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act," he said.

Perlis deputy police chief Asst Comm Noor Mushar Mohd said police were trying to determine the main perpetrator behind the case, adding that Bukit Aman had taken over the investigations. "We will provide the details when the investigation is completed."
