A Thai woman gave birth to a baby boy in a lift at a private hospital in George Town, Penang, on Sunday, reported Harian Metro.
The 32-year-old woman and her Malaysian husband were earlier trapped inside the lift.
However, thanks to the swift action of the Fire and Rescue Department, the woman delivered her baby with the help of a doctor.
A department spokesman said the couple were taking the lift to the second floor when it got stuck.
"There was a security guard with them so the guard called the lift maintenance company as well as our department.
"Our personnel arrived at the scene, opened the lift door and found the woman in a weak state."
A doctor on duty then came to help, said the spokesman.
The doctor immediately helped to deliver the 3.35kg baby, he added.
Both mother and son were reported to be in stable condition.
