In two separate instances in Malaysia, babies left in a nanny's care ended up seriously hurt.

One has died while the other is in a coma.

A Malaysian woman left her 20-month-old son with a babysitter before she went to work last week.

Less than two hours later, she received a call from the babysitter, saying her son was dying.

The boy died while under the care of his nanny at an apartment in Desa Setia Wira, Jalan Buku Lima, near Kuala Lumpur, reported The Star.

Police believe a crime was committed.

The nanny had been taking care of the boy for three months.

The boy's mother had taken him to the nanny's house at 7.45am on Friday before leaving for work.

Around 9.15am, the mother got a call from the nanny saying the boy was very sick and looked bluish.

The mother then rushed to the nanny's flat to find the boy unconscious.

Although she immediately took the boy to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment, doctors confirmed at 10.30am that the toddler had died.

The baby's father later lodged a police report. The boy was reportedly the only child to have been in the nanny's care that day.

Confirming the report, acting City CID chief Assistant Commissioner Khairi Ahrasa said they had reasons to believe from the post-mortem results that a crime had been committed.

"We have not made any arrest so far," he said, adding that the case was being investigated as murder.

The family took the boy's remains to Kuala Terengganu for burial.

In Ipoh, a two-month-old infant has been in a coma at the Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for almost a week after he was allegedly abused by his middle-aged nanny, reported the New Straits Times.

The baby boy was admitted to the hospital's emergency ward by his parents at 11pm last Tuesday after he passed out at home. A source said a CT scan ishowed there was a haemorrhage in his brain.

The baby had apparently suffered head trauma from vigorous shaking.
