Malaysian postgraduate student found dead in Taiwan

KUALA LUMPUR - A Malaysian student was found dead at her rented home in Taiwan.

The 24-year-old victim, identified as Liu Jia Yi from Kepong, was a first-year postgraduate student at the National Taiwan Normal University.

She was found dead near some burnt charcoal in her room by a housemate on Wednesday evening, according to Taiwan newspapers.

Police were investigating the cause of death.

It was believed that Liu, who worked part-time at a cafe, had complained to her housemates of being under pressure, but did not reveal any details.

Wisma Putra, when contacted Thursday, said it had yet to receive any information about the incident.

Coincidentally, a third-year student of the Taipei College of Maritime Technology, was found unconscious near some burnt charcoal at the toilet of his hostel on Wednesday morning.

The 21-year-old Taiwanese undergraduate was sent to hospital and was in stable condition.

It was reported that he left behind a note, citing his unhappiness from breaking-up with his girlfriend.
