Malaysia's second finance minister: Stop baseless allegations on 1MDB

Baseless allegations against 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) should be put to rest as the preliminary report on its accounts found "no evidence" of wrongdoings, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

"Therefore the reckless allegations by some parties including the 'disappearance' of RM42bil and transfer of USD700mil (S$943mil) to certain individuals does not arise," said the Second Finance Minister in a statement, Tuesday.

"It is my hope that all baseless allegations will be put to rest.

"We have to remain patient and we look forward to the final report by the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee," he said.

He said the focus now should be on the firm's rationalisation plan, as the Government is committed to have the issues pertaining to 1MDB's debt be resolved," said Husni.

"The definitive aim of the rationalisation plan is to rebalance 1MDB's asset and debt in order to support its financial structure that will ensure its sustainability going forward," he added.

Last Thursday, the PAC was represented with the AG's interim report on 1MDB but its chairman, Datuk Nur Jazlan said it was "premature" to tell whether there were any discrepancies or wrongdoings found.

He just said the committee was satisfied with the way the investigations were carried out.
