MCCY head to travel to Myanmar to support Team S'pore

SINGAPORE - Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Mr Lawrence Wong, will be travelling to Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, from Dec 11 to 14 for the 27th Southeast Asian Games 2013.

During his visit he will be attending the Opening Ceremony and catching Team Singapore athletes in action in various events including badminton, basketball, football, silat and swimming. Mr Wong will also be interacting with the athletes at the Athletes' Village.

The head of Singapore's MCCY will also be meeting with Myanmar Minister of Culture, Mr U Aye Myint Kyu to discuss ways to enhance ties between the two countries.

He will also be accompanied by MCCY's Permanent Secretary, Ms Yeoh Chee Yan and Deputy Secretary (Community, Youth and Sport), Mr Hugh Lim, and other officials from MCCY, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Singapore Sports Council.

From Dec 20 to 22, MCCY Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Sam Tan will also be travelling to Myanmar to support Team Singapore and to attend the Closing Ceremony.

Singapore will be taking over as the next host country for the 28th SEA Games in 2015.
