Having coordinating ministers to help tackle complex matters is a logical step in the right direction ("PM names Cabinet aimed at leadership succession"; yesterday).
Singapore's leadership succession has always been carefully planned well ahead of time, to ensure continuity in proper governance and service to the people, as seen in the transitions between Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Goh Chok Tong, and between Mr Goh and Mr Lee Hsien Loong.
Having experienced leaders such as Mr Teo Chee Hean and Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam - both deputy prime ministers - as coordinating ministers is a very wise move, as this provides mentorship to the younger ministers and prepares them for higher office.
