MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUS

Brazilian bus drivers are different. They do not concern themselves with small details - such as traffic lights, speed limits, sharp corners and pot holes. I have floated above my seat more times than a magician's assistant. Last night, however, a couple of bus drivers took their indifference to road safety to greater heights. As they both thundered towards a bus stop, they collided. Twisted metal and shattered glass rained down on the pavement. And do you know what happened next? Nothing. They drove away as if nothing had happened.

GIVE ME THE BALL BACK

Everyone plays sport on the Maracana beach. Watching grandparents play beach volleyball, remarkably well, has been one of the highlights of the World Cup trip. Yesterday, I met a couple of girls polishing their football skills, Leticia Correa (above, right) and Diulia Valentim (left) allowed me to join. The Brazilian duo suggested a football version of Piggy in the Middle. I was the Piggy. I couldn't get the ball off them. It was embarrassing.

GIRLS BEAT FOOTBALL

A group of Colombian fans stopped for a video chat last night. We discussed the South Americans' remarkable progress, the atmosphere and the benefits of Brazil being the hosts. All four guys reached the same conclusion. "The best thing about Brazil is the girls," one of them slurred. What about Colombia's chance to defeat Brazil and make real history, I wondered. He gave my suggestion serious thought. "No, it is still the girls," he decided. "Even James Rodriguez doesn't look that good in a G-string.
