SINGAPORE - With many cafes shifting their attention from coffee to brunch items, here is a hotspot that takes its artisan coffee seriously.
The New Black features coffee curated from a collection of roasters which include Verve Coffee Roasters from Santa Cruz in the United States, Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. from Washington, Small Batch Roasters from Melbourne and Tim Wendelboe from Oslo, Norway.
There are no espresso machines blocking your view of the baristas in the sleek 800 sq ft space. Instead, all you see are taps for espresso with the Modbar coffee brewing system from Indiana in the United States.
This is part of a stainless-steel workbench that hides the coffee-making equipment in a cabinet, as well as Steampunk machines from Alpha Dominche (from Salt Lake City) that let baristas brew coffee at a precise temperature and time.
Pick your coffee using their taste wheel, which categorises the complex taste profiles of coffee. Prices start at $5.50. Teas (from $5), with iced options, are also available. Grab a croissant ($3 each) to go with coffee or tea, supplied by B.A.O. (Bakery Artisan Original) by French pastry chef Christophe Grilo.
