New DBS and POSB ATMs to have Tamil language option

SINGAPORE - New DBS and POSB ATMs being launched will not only feature more shortcuts and bigger font for elderly users, it will also have a Tamil-language option for Tamil-speaking users.

The new ATMs are set to be launched island-wide by June 2016, and mark the bank's first major user interface revamp since 2006.

Based on the bank's pilot run of the new ATMs, transaction times are expected to be cut by up to 20 per cent

The bank made use of optimisation analytics to ensure that the interface took into account customer usage patterns. For example, the four transactions provided on the main menu - cash withdrawal, fund transfer and balance enquiry for main and all accounts - account for most of the bank's ATM transactions.

Jeremy Soo, managing director and head of consumer banking group (Singapore), DBS Bank said: "While efficiency was a key factor in designing our interface, we also wanted to ensure that it would take into account the diverse needs of our customers - hence the implementation of the Tamil language option and its elderly-friendly features."
