Taiwanese handset maker HTC unveiled its latest HTC One (M8) smartphone two days ago in New York (12 midnight Singapore Time), almost a year after its original HTC One Android smartphone went on sale.
Boasting a new HTC Sense 6 user interface, dual lens rear camera and luxurious side-to-side aluminium alloy finish, the HTC One (M8) is the company's response to the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2, which were both announced at last month's Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona. All three phones will go on sale here in April.
With two camera lenses in the rear of the HTC One (M8), users can use this Duo camera to take photos with multiple depths. The software in the device allows users to pick different points of focus in the final photo. The data captured by the second camera also makes it possible to give images a 3-D look.
It also uses a 5-megapixel, wide-angle lens on the front camera, to enable users to take higher quality and sharper selfies, compared to the 2 megapixels ones available from other smartphone makers.
The HTC One (M8) also introduces Motion Launch, a feature that allows navigation by tapping or swiping the screen. For example, a double tap locks and unlocks the phone, while swiping right from the left edge of the screen calls up HTC's Blinkfeed content page.
The One (M8) measures 146.36mm by 70.6mm, and weighs 160g. HTC says that the phone's battery allows up to 40 per cent more battery life.
