Celebrity hairstylist dishes on famous clients

Celebrity hairstylist dishes on famous clients

As a celebrity hairstylist in Hollywood, Chris McMillan has tended to many A-list tresses, including red carpet regulars such as Michelle Williams and Kate Hudson, whose hair he styled for Sunday night's Academy Awards.

The Los Angeles-based McMillan, however, may be most famous for being actress Jennifer Aniston's go-to hair guy and the creator of the oft-requested "Rachel" cut in the 1990s.

"I always knew I was going to do hair," says the 49-year-old in a phone interview with Urban the day after the Academy Awards, noting that he was interested in his mother's coifs even as an eight-year-old.

He now splits his time at his salon, working on magazine photo shoots, and with individual clients. McMillan has also come aboard as celebrity hairstylist for Living Proof, a science-based haircare brand backed by Aniston.

He adds: "It means I'm never bored!"

HIS CELEBRITY CLIENTS

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer introduced me to Living Proof about two years ago, and we both decided to work with the brand together. I especially like that the styling products treat instead of damage hair.

Kate Hudson

For her Oscar look, we were inspired by the slightly 1940s feel of her Atelier Versace dress. The asymmetrical hairstyle helps keep her look modern. I blow dried the hair with a round brush and added some curl later on. It took about an hour from start to finish.

Michelle Williams

I do Michelle's hair too and she has a short cut that suits her. It's very modern.

DREAM CLIENT

Jennifer Lawrence

I would love to get my hands on her hair. It seems like she would be willing to go to crazy places, but I think her hair is still too ladylike right now. It could be more modern.

TREND HE LOVES

The messy bob is a great look that lets hair be more casual. It's not so blunt and preppy as previous bobs. It's got a geometric shape but takes advantage of a person's natural texture.

TREND HE LOATHES

I wouldn't mind if ombre hair went away. I like it when it looks natural but a lot of times it's too dramatic and severe. I'm not a fan of bad extensions, too, like they have on the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills!

TREND FORECAST

My hair forecast for spring/summer 2014 is "unplugged". This means hairstyles that don't need tools for maintenance, like the messy bob.
