Students at ITE College East (CE) who cannot afford regular meals at school will soon get some help.
The tertiary institution in Simei and the Rotary Club of Pandan Valley (RCPV) have teamed up to introduce a meal-voucher scheme to help tide these students over from April 1.
The two-year scheme will cost $30,000, and will allow some 500 CE students to eat for free at the two cafeterias in the college.
Mr Eden Liew, CE's principal, said: "This will help motivate them (the students) in their studies, and also ease students and their families of some of their financial burden."
To raise funds for the scheme, the RCPV held a charity screening of the movie Labor Day, starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, last night at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard.
