SINGAPORE - Student volunteer Putri Zahiranisha, 17, was in Orchard Road yesterday to hand out "roses of peace". About 5,000 roses were given out by 200 volunteers, including students from polytechnics and universities, to spread the message of peace and harmony at various MRT stations. Each rose came with a card bearing quotes from religious figures or philosophers such as Confucius, the Prophet Muhammad, Jesus and Buddha. The event was held by the Singapore Tertiary Muslim Students, in partnership with groups such as Singapore Kindness Movement and Jamiyah Singapore. The Roses of Peace initiative was first organised in 2012 to promote the universal values of peace, love and kindness.
