Tighten rules on budget hotels

SINGAPORE - There have been many recent reports of men being hauled up for vice-related activities involving underage girls.

In many cases, the offences were committed in budget hotels in different parts of the island.

While punishing these men is the right thing to do, what are the authorities doing to stop such activities in these hotels?

If guests at these hotels are required to register with their identity cards, what about the "guests" they bring with them? Aren't they also required to register?

If not, then perhaps it is time for such a requirement to be mandated.

That such activities are taking place in budget hotels suggests the authorities must pay greater attention to this problem, if they are serious about eradicating vice activities that affect our young.
