Zhang Ziyi, Ryeo Won Jung party with local celebs at old Kallang airport

SINGAPORE - In a bid to distinguish themselves from others, US fashion brand Calvin Klein last Friday threw a multi-brand fashion party at the former Kallang Airport, which is currently an unoccupied hanger.

A power house of celebrities like Chinese star Zhang Ziyi, Korean actress Ryeo Won Jung, Hong Kong stars Louis Koo and Alex To and star of up-coming movie 50 Shades of Grey Dakota Johnson and her boyfriend, actor Jordan Masterson turned up to show support for the brand at the exotic location.

While the international stars made a strong showing, local celebrities and fashion personalities Dick Lee, Tracy Phillips, designer Jo Soh also joined in the glitzy party. Former actress turned fitness personality, Wong Lilin, turned up alone. Shortly after she stepped off the "grey" carpet, her ex-husband Allan Wu arrived with lawyer, socialite Tan Min Li.

While the fashion event was held to celebrate the brand's continued global expansion, especially within Asia, and to mark the opening of four new Calvin Klein Collection stores in South-east Asia in 2014, it was Zhang Ziyi who seemed to steal the show with her grand entrance at around 9.30pm.

The award-winning actress wore a stunning gold-beaded long dress and was photographed on the "grey" carpet with Kevin Carrigan, creative director for Calvin Klein's platinum label, jeans and underwear.

The US fashion and lifestyle brand presented a unique concept house, which was a life-sized apartment with bedrooms, kitchen, party room with a pool table, and even a mini lap pool. It was designed by renowned architect Joshua Prince-Ramus, who sought to feature the brand's different labels and products in a one-of-a-kind architectural installation.

Set in the middle of the spacious hanger, the glass-covered apartment was illuminated by the warm yellow lights of the apartment. The structure was a sight to behold as it contrasted with the stark surroundings of the former airport.

Hosted by Calvin Klein's creative directors, Francisco Costa, Italo Zucchelli, Kevin Carrigan, Ulrich Grimm and Amy Mellen, along with Calvin Klein's CEO, Tom Murry, the fashion event employed technology and models to deliver an interactive experience to the stars and guests.

Highlights of the event included model Matthew Terry lounging on the deck of the house in a swimming pool, and a spontaneous "strip-tease" segment which saw the other models undressing to their skimpy underwear to join Terry in the pool. The models wore lingerie and underwear pieces from Calvin Klein Underwear. Others lounged around in the apartment in Calvin Klein's latest fall collection, Calvin Klein platinum label, and the newly relaunched Calvin Klein Jeans line.

The party carried on late into the night as more guests appeared after 11pm and turned the usually dilapidated hanger into a happening night spot to be in Singapore on a Friday night.
