Ligue 1: 'You can't buy success with money'

Given the money the Qatari owners have pumped into PSG, are you looking at a return of at least one trophy each season?

AL KHELAIFI: This year, I'm not sure, honestly. We'll have at least two trophies. I hope that we can win the French league and the League Cup. That's our minimum goal for this year.

Do you think PSG can win the Champions League?

There are another seven clubs who are very strong. We will try our best.

Now, we are in the quarterfinals; hopefully we can go further this year. We hope to win the Champions League in four to five years' time.

What do you say to critics who say PSG are buying success with money?

You can never buy success with money.

You buy it with management, you buy it with vision, you buy it with a plan.

Do you think getting top players to come to PSG has helped Ligue 1 internationally?

It has helped a lot.

If you see players like Zlatan (Ibrahimovic), (Thiago) Silva, (Edinson) Cavani, as well as (Radamel) Falcao of Monaco, they all help to promote the French league.

The English Premier League (EPL) has a huge following in Asia. Do you think Ligue 1 can match it one day?

In the long term, yes. But it will be difficult in the short term, to be honest.

There is a lot of work to be done, but I am very confident that the Ligue 1 can be at the same level as the EPL.
