SHIN GOONG looks like he could be a really good thing when he races over the 1,000m in Race 11 on Sunday.
The five-year-old Argentinian-bred confirmed what we saw at the trials eight days ago - that he was ripe and ready for another victory - when he produced an eye-catching workout on the training track on Wednesday morning.
On his toes throughout, he ran the 600m in 37.8sec - finishing with plenty in the tank.
It was the same at the trials on March 4 when, with Nathan Berry in the saddle, he won as he liked, clocking 61.26sec for the mandatory 1,000m.
Some will say that the long layoff he had, wouldn't have done him any favours. So, will it?
Will the long break affect him adversely? Well, we don't think so.
Indeed, it was in 2013 that he returned to the racetrack from an eight-month spell to finish a solid fourth behind Lucky Dapper in a 1,200m on the turf.
That was in February. In his very next start, just a month later and almost to the day last year, he made every post a winning one when he whipped Yes Baba by almost five lengths over 1,200m on the Polytrack.
All of that - when coupled with yesterday's workout - tells us he can be backed with plenty of confidence on Sunday, even though he does come up against some really talented sprinters.
