Singapore in nine-wicket thumping by UAE

SINGAPORE - Singapore's cricketers were handed a nine-wicket mauling by the United Arab Emirates in Group B of the ACC Emerging Teams Cup at the Padang yesterday.

Sent in to bat, Singapore were dismissed for 162 in 48 overs. Several of their batsmen failed to convert their initial start to big scores. In reply, the UAE met the target in just 27.3 overs, with opener Shaiman Anwar unbeaten on 119 to win the Man-of-the-Match Award.

In Group A, Pakistan's Under-23s defeated Afghanistan by two wickets. Afghanistan's seniors made 142 but the Pakistani youngsters passed the score with eight deliveries to spare at Kallang.
