Special Olympics Singapore athletes team up with family for youth triathlon

SINGAPORE - Athletes from Special Olympics Singapore teamed up with their family members at a special triathlon clinic at Changi Beach Park this morning.

Organised by multi-sport event organiser MetaSport, the clinic was conducted to prepare for their participation at the 6th edition of the MILO Youth Triathlon on May 31.

To commemorate the International Year of the Family in Singapore, these athletes and their families have been invited by MILO Youth Triathlon to participate in the Family Team Relay of this non-competitive event.

Student athletes from Singapore Sports School also accepted the invitation to join the Special Olympics family teams, undertaking the cycling leg of the triathlon. The Special Olympics Singapore athletes and their family member will each take up either the running or swimming leg.

Special Olympics is an international organisation dedicated to empowering persons with intellectual disabilities.

"Through this partnership with Special Olympics Singapore, MILO® Singapore hopes to inspire the community to embrace persons with intellectual disabilities and recognise that they are just as capable of discovering and achieving new strengths, abilities, skills and success through sports," said Mr Heng Peng Kwang, Marketing Director of Nestlé Singapore.
