No distance too far for the love of cycling

MALAYSIA - The recently concluded Pedalholics Cycling Club's (PCC) 2013 inter-state ride attracted some 400 cyclists, including participants from abroad.

Spanning over three days and covering a distance of 500km, the ride was flagged off in Temerloh, Pahang on Aug 30 and ended on Sept 1 in Desaru, Johor.

Team StarMetro, led by its captain Kevin Tan and rider Md Ehfan Shah, took part in the event, which was one of the longest rides organised by PCC.

The first inter-state ride dates back to 1997 from Subang to Lumut, covering a distance of 220km.

It has become an annual event ever since, attracting cyclists from all over Malaysia and around the world.

Tan said his team had managed the Temerloh-Desaru ride pretty well.

"We had a great time cycling through the scenic course.

"Some stages were tough, but Ehfan and I managed to take it in our stride and complete the ride," he said.

On day one, the team covered a distance of 142km from Temerloh to Kuantan, while day two saw the cyclists working their way from Kuantan to Kuala Rompin (156km).

The third day was the toughest as the riders clocked 197km to complete the event.

First-timer Ehfan said the inter-state ride gave him the opportunity to learn how other cyclists coped with the ultra-long distances.

"I made some friends along the way who shared their knowledge on how to tackle the distance.

"The last stage was the toughest as the terrain was undulating with plenty of long climbs," he added.

The ride was managed by Ebakz event management and sponsored by Volkwagen Kuantan, Thule Malaysia and Ciclista Sdn Bhd.
