Cop suspected of Kovan murders knew the victim
SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and Commissioner of Police Ng Joo Hee released details of the Kovan murder suspect at a press conference on Saturday morning, where it was revealed that the suspect had met one of the victims before.
Iskandar Rahmat, 34, who had been in the police force for 14 years, was the duty officer when one of the victims, Mr Tan Boon Sin, 67, made a police report about a theft in November last year.
But the extent of their relationship is still unknown.
Iskandar was brought to the Cantonment Police Headquarters on Saturday afternoon, following which he was brought back to the scene of the crime to assist police with investigations.
He was suspended at the time of the murders because he was facing internal disciplinary action, and was in debt because of domestic matters.
