Cheung breaks records with tour

HONG KONG - Jacky Cheung has broken records with his Jacky Cheung 1/2 Century Tour, which ended in May last year.

Over 18 months, the God of Songs performed 146 shows to notch a record for the most performances in a single tour by a Chinese singer, according to reports. The concerts in 77 cities drew 2.8 million fans.

The Hong Kong singer also set a Guinness World Record for the largest combined audience for a live act in 12 months, with 2,048,553 audience members, reported Oriental Daily. The Guinness website published the news of the record, achieved in the 12 months to December 2011, in June last year.

Over that period, Cheung, known for classics such as Goodbye Kiss, was performing live in 61 cities in China and the United States, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. Cheung, who turned 52 on Wednesday, started the tour to commemorate himself entering his 50s.

He reportedly said: "Even till I'm 60 or 70 years old, as long as people support me, I will do my best to finish all my shows."

The DVD and CD of the tour will be released on July 19.
