Football on radio, just like old days

SINGAPORE - English football fans in Singapore are in for a treat, after Red Card announced an exclusive partnership with British radio station talkSPORT on Monday.

The local sports marketing agency will be launching a new Internet radio station, Red Card Sports Radio, next month.

Under the partnership, talkSPORT will provide the station with live official commentary of the English Premier League, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup for the next three seasons, starting with this year's FA Community Shield clash between Manchester United and Wigan Athletic on Aug 11.

talkSPORT's chief executive Scott Taunton said: "With live EPL commentary at its heart, this new station from Red Card will be bringing the best in live sport to listeners in Singapore.

"As global audio partner of the EPL, we've seen a huge appetite for our commentary around the world and I'm delighted that talkSPORT will be part of this new exciting project from Red Card."

Opinions

Apart from its English football content, Red Card Sports Radio will also feature local sports programmes that will allow Singaporeans to air their opinions via call-ins and social media. All services will be free.

It is a throwback to the old days when fans got their football fix by also using their imagination that has Red Card managing director R Sasikumar excited.

"Some of the older fans in Singapore grew up listening to football commentary on the radio and, in a sense, it is a bit nostalgic. It will also reach out to people on the go," said the former Singapore international defender.

The Red Card Sports Radio will launch on Aug 11 across multiple platforms, including PC, tablets and smartphones.

An app for iOS and Android users will be made available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, respectively.
