SINGAPORE - She pulled it off again last Thursday night, but it wasn't good enough.

A day after becoming the first Singaporean woman to run a 100-metre race under 12 seconds, Shanti Pereira repeated the feat in her semi-final heat at the IAAF World Youth Athletics Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday.

Unfortunately, her time of 11.96s - just slightly slower than her national record of 11.89s set on Wednesday - was not enough to qualify for the final.

She finished fourth in her semi-final.

The Republic Polytechnic student, who turns 17 in September, will have the chance to rewrite another national record when she competes in the 200m event this evening.

Shanti's personal best in the 200m is 24.60, just behind Prema Govindran's 29-year-old record of 24.54.

Two other Singaporeans were also in action in Donetsk on Thursday.

Hurdlers Ang Ding Hui (14.42) and Linus Chong (16.50), failed to qualify from their heats in the 110m  event.

Meanwhile, the men's 4x100m relay team clocked 40.15 to squeeze into the final at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.

The relay team, who hold the national record of 39.45, are without top sprinter Gary Yeo, who is nursing a hamstring strain, and Elfi Mustapa, who is ineligible as he is not enrolled as a university student.

This evening's final will be their last shot at attempting to meet the qualification time of 39.20 for the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow next month.
