SMRT to have more London cabs

SINGAPORE - SMRT has doubled its fleet of 15 London cabs to better serve passengers with special travel needs.

The first batch of London cabs made their debut in March, after SMRT was awarded a $3.1 million grant from the Government last year.

But beyond that, SMRT is also training drivers to "better assist passengers with mobility impairments".

The London cab is the only type of taxi in Singapore that offers enough space for high-backed or motorised wheelchairs.

SMRT also has one Hyundai Starex taxi that is specially equipped with automated access facilities to accommodate passengers using normal wheelchairs.
