Time for a 'Silver Ministry'?

In his commentary ("Life starts at 60, how long will funds last?"; June 30), managing editor Han Fook Kwang raised some pertinent issues requiring the urgent attention of the Government, employers and workers.

His assertion that the implications of an ageing population have yet to sink in is all too true, and his prescription to "get the retirement income scheme right" is one route to take.

There are many other issues related to ageing that need urgent attention, for example, those involving health, transport and housing.

Various government agencies are looking into the issues, but it may be time to have a "Silver Ministry" to ensure that all relevant issues are considered, and that adequate planning and coordination are carried out.
