Teens fail to break into ATM, steal water cooler instead

GEORGE TOWN - Frustrated at not being able to break into an automated teller machine (ATM) at a mosque in Universiti Sains Malaysia yesterday, two teenagers turned their attention on two water coolers.

The duo made off with the water coolers after an alarm went off when they tried to prise open the ATM in the 4.30am incident.

Their act was caught on a closed-circuit television camera. They escaped with two water coolers after they were forced to abandon their robbery bid.

Northeast police chief Assistant Commissioner Gan Kong Ming said the robbers failed to make away with the cash box as it was still inside the ATM when police arrived at the scene.

He said the CCTV camera had recorded clear pictures of the suspects and police manage to lift 13 fingerprints from the crime scene.
