Kovan murder victim was a family man

SINGAPORE - Businessman Tan Chee Heong, 42, one of the victims of the Kovan double murder last Wednesday, was a quiet and responsible man.

His uncle, Mr Ong Boon Kok, 49, said he was like a brother to him.

"He was a filial son, a good husband who loved his family and took care of their needs," said Mr Ong in Mandarin, adding that Mr Tan took a strong interest in his children's education.

Mr Tan had two sons, aged three and 10.

Neighbours said he was a dedicated family man, who was sometimes seen cycling with his children, reported Lianhe Zaobao.

A fellow national serviceman who attended the wake of Mr Tan and his father, Mr Tan Boon Sin, 66, on Monday, told Zaobao that Mr Tan was an outstanding flight trainee in his younger days.

Yesterday, family and friends sent off the father and son at a funeral in Ubi.

Mr Tan Chee Heong's wife, who had been calm for most of the funeral rites, let out a sudden cry of anguish as she pushed the hearse carrying her father-in-law.

The elder Mr Tan's wife was visibly distraught during the funeral. After the bodies of her husband and son were cremated at the Mandai Crematorium, she appeared weak and had to be supported by family members.
