Police arrest 2 men for alleged motorcycle theft

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested two men, aged 22 and 25 years, who are believed to be responsible for a case of theft of motorcycle in the vicinity of Seah Im Road.

The police received a report on June 16 at about 4.30am that a motorcycle was stolen in the vicinity of Seah Im Road.

The stolen motorcycle was later recovered in the vicinity of Circuit Road on June 17.

After the review of CCTV footage and extensive follow up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identities of the two suspects.

They were arrested in the vicinity of Clementi Avenue 5 on July 16 and July 17 respectively.

The suspects will be charged in Court on July 18 for an offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle with Common Intention under Section 379A read with Section 34 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they face a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their policing work.

He also advised motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

- Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas

- Install an anti-theft alarm on your vehicle

- Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends

- Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install suspension guards
