Kopi-O with a free massage for seniors

SINGAPORE - Some 120 senior citizens headed to their neighbourhood coffee shop in Kim Tian Road on Monday morning and had more than coffee and eggs. They were treated to free massages too, like Tiong Bahru resident Ma Ah Hui, 75, who got a head massage from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) physician Ng Choom Mong, 56.

A TCM health talk was held at the eatery, teaching the elderly simple exercises and how to have a healthy diet, and giving the old folk a good rub to ease aches and pain.

"Having a health talk at the coffee shop creates a familiar environment and allows participants to enjoy their breakfast and, at the same time, gain a tip or two on how to stay healthy," said event organiser Chia Kheng Wah, 58.

A TCM practitioner also taught them simple techniques to enhance immunity to illnesses at the event organised by Tiong Bahru Community Centre.

Retiree Chin Su Hua, 66, who has been having knee and arm pains for the past year, said the session was "very beneficial".
