SINGAPORE - A 63-year-old woman, who is being sued over a Housing Board flat by her mother, claimed on Wednesday that 91-year-old widow Eileen Chia Yoke Mui had been "put up" to it by her sons, who are not party to the case.
Madam Yvonne Goh Mei Ling told the High Court that her siblings, Eric Goh Wai Mun, 69, and Evan Goh Wyming, 65, had "orchestrated" proceedings to reverse a move by their parents to share the property in Clementi with her and her sister Madam Yvette Goh Meich'ang, 53.
She insisted that her father - late scout pioneer Dennis Goh Chin Chye - wanted them to have a "home base" to stay whenever they return from England, where they live.
Madam Chia claimed, however, that Yvonne harassed her into making her two daughters joint owners of the property in 2009, and that she had not been properly advised on its legal implications. The sisters claimed the partial transfer was a gift made willingly by their parents.
When a co-owner dies in a joint tenancy, her share goes to the other owners. But if Madam Chia is successful and the sisters' names are removed, all four siblings will get an equal share when their mother dies.
