Time for a name change

SINGAPORE - The Government should consider renaming the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

The current name does not reflect the fact that it offers courses beyond technical education, such as hospitality and business.

More importantly, changing the name would raise the prestige of vocational education.

I propose renaming it "Senior College", to mark a brand differentiation from junior colleges.

An ITE education is considered post-secondary, and many graduates enter polytechnics, which are considered tertiary education institutions.

The proposed name would also reflect the diverse courses offered.
