Maid who inspired Chen's Cannes-winning movie found

SINGAPORE - Local director Anthony Chen, 29, has found the Filipino domestic helper from his past who inspired his Cannes Film Festival-winning film Ilo Ilo, which revolves around a Singaporean family and their maid, who befriends the family's troubled son.

A post on the movie's Facebook page last Sunday wrote that Chen managed to locate Ms Teresa Sajunia, who is now 55 and living in San Miguel, Iloilo, in the Philippines.

"There are so many questions running through my head right now. It's been 16 long years since she left Singapore, and we are definitely looking forward to getting in touch soon," he was quoted as saying.

He bagged the Camera d'Or (Golden Camera) for best first feature film at Cannes, the first time a local feature won at the prestigious film festival.
