Suspect arrested over slashing in Ang Mo Kio

POLICE arrested a 26-year-old man involved in Sunday's horrific slashing yesterday afternoon.

The suspect, who was detained along Tanglin Halt Road, had allegedly attacked Mr Mohammad Ashiq Sabtu, 20, in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.

The victim broke his legs and his left arm while trying to shield himself after his cousin and a friend allegedly attacked him with what he described as a "watermelon knife".

In a statement released yesterday, police appealed for information on a second man, 38-year-old Singaporean Mohd Hisham Mohd Salled, to assist with investigations.

Mr Mohammad Ashiq successfully underwent a major six-hour operation on Tuesday, and is recovering at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Anyone with information can call the police hotline, 1800-255-0000. Police investigations are ongoing.
