One passenger dead after SMRT bus skids and overturns

SINGAPORE - An incident involving a SMRT bus has resulted in one fatality and two other people injured, SMRT said today.

According to a statement posted on their Facebook page, the incident involved Bus Service 700 and occurred along Dairy Farm Road at 8.57am this morning.

"Preliminary reports from our incident team can confirm that there has been one fatality. Another male passenger and our bus captain have sustained injuries, and are being sent to NUH for treatment," the transport service provider said.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the two men were conscious when they were sent to the hospital.

"SMRT is making a full assessment of the situation and is working closely with the SCDF and the Police on their investigations."

The SCDF spokesperson said that it received a call for assistance and arrived to find a male passenger trapped in the vehicle. He was extracted with rescue tools and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

"We are deeply saddened by the incident and extend our compassion to family members of the deceased, and will do all we can to assist the injured passengers and their families," SMRT said.

SMRT added that the company will provide further updates when the police investigation is complete.
