Johor schools to re-open Tuesday, except Muar, Ledang

JOHOR BARU - Johor education director Mohd Nor A Ghani said all schools that were closed due to the haze in the state will be opened tomorrow, except for schools in Muar and Ledang.

"He said that schools in Muar and Ledang will still be closed due to the health emergency declaration by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday after Air Pollutant Index (API) in Muar reached 750 at 7am on that day," he said today.

A total of 211 schools, consisting of both primary and secondary in Muar and Ledang will remain closed until further notice.

According to Department of Environment website, the API readings at 5pm were Kota Tinggi (68), Larkin Lama (108), Muar (125) and Pasir Gudang (74).

At 11 am, the API readings were Kota Tinggi (74), Larkin Lama (107), Muar (132) and Pasir Gudang (75).

Based on the API, a reading of between 0-50 is categorised as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy), and 300 and above hazardous.

In Negri Sembilan, state education director Kalsom Khalid said schools in Port Dickson will also operate as usual from tomorrow after the API reading dropped to 192 today.
