Muar folk brave thicker haze despite state of emergency

MUAR - Despite a state of emergency declared here by the Government, locals still continue to go about their everyday routine.

Even with the air pollutant index peaking at 750, they were seen having meals at coffee shops and shopping for groceries.

Many even wandered around without face masks or taking other precautionary measures to protect themselves from the haze.

Visibility in this district was bad. The haze shrouded iconic buildings such as the Masjid Sultan Ibrahim.

Businessman Lim Chong Chan, 29, said despite the haze, people in Muar were under the impression that it was not dangerous to be in public.

"When the API exceeded more than 700 on Sunday, I was worried, especially for my children," he said, adding that other folks didn't seem to think so.
