ONE: Wu Ze wants to become best flyweight in the world

Wu Ze is a quick learner.

The 20-year-old Rong Dao Ge Dou fighter picked up the Guangzhou Flyweight Tournament title in June when he scored a split decision over Yang Jian Bing.

After opening his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career with a loss, Wu has scored three straight victories.

That includes a submission with a rear-naked choke over Wu Hui Qiang in the opening round.

During the bout, Wu landed an incredible front-flip kick to Wu that has given him popularity on a international level.

Along with the kick, Wu showed off his wrestling skills, connecting with a belly-to-back suplex that nearly dropped his opponent on his head.

He also landed with powerful leg kicks, taking that into the second and effectively grappled his opponent to the ground.

A second hard takedown from Wu led to the finish, as he slipped his way from side control, to the full mount before slipping his way in his opponent's back and locking up the submission.

In the finals against Yang, Wu had to rely again on his high-level wrestling, showing his strength and power in controlling enough of the 10-minute contest to pull out the decision.

While he wasn't able to get the finish like he did in the semifinals, there was plenty of highlight-reel moments from the young prospect.

His name likely came on the ONE radar after a TKO victory vs. Xianchao Zhao in late 2014.

Five years ago, Wu picked up MMA after watching Buakaw and Mike Zambidis compete for K-1 on television. It sparked something inside the Chinese fighter, as he quickly started working to improve through the use of Sanda.

Competing for over five years in Sanda, Wu eventually progressed into MMA. It is something new for his family, which has no previous martial arts experience.

Sanda is a perfect sport to prepare you for MMA, as it takes into account throws and striking, along with helping your balance.

Over the course of his training, he's been able to base himself in judo, while also effectively striking and grappling on the feet and on the ground.

Still finding himself in life, Wu continues to study school on a daily basis. He balances himself with schooling in the morning before taking to the gym in the afternoon.
