COMNAM

The latest restaurant by the Les Amis Group opened last Friday and features the aromatic broken rice dish called Com Tam, from southern Vietnam. "Com" is cooked rice, while "nam" refers to southern Vietnam.

Prices range between $3.90 for crispy fried sweet potato rolls and $13.90 for a premium crispy softshell crab and crispy squid with dill rice bowl. Dessert options include durian pudding and shaved ice with pandan jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar. Set lunches are available from 10am to 3pm at $9.90.

Comnam takes over the space of the now-defunct Canele patisserie at Raffles City, next to the group's NamNam Noodle Bar chain.

FLUFFY WHITE CLOUD CAFE

Located at Thomson V2, this cafe doubles as a retail store selling watches and accessories from San Francisco-based company Tokyobay. The cafe's menu offers dishes such as Let's Go Bananas ($2.50), a banana cake; and Fluffy Gold Bar ($3), a traditional Burmese semolina cake. For drinks, the coffees (from $3) range from espresso to mocha (from $4.30).

TONKATSU & SAKE BAR TONZAEMON

If you love crispy fried pork fillets - otherwise known as tonkatsu - head to this three- week-old Japanese restaurant and bar. Offerings include the tonkatsu set meal ($58++) with pork loin or fillet; foie gras katsu ($30.80++, above), a 160g deep-fried pork fillet stuffed with Hungarian foie gras; and deep-fried oysters ($19.80) from Hiroshima.

The 38-seat restaurant, which is opened by the Ma Maison Restaurant Group, also offers 16 types of sake and eight types of shochu.

CHANG THAI

Get your fix of Thai food at Chang Thai, an 80-seat restaurant in Bishan. Signature dishes include steamed seabass with lemongrass ($25); sirloin beef soup noodle ($7); and garlic honey chicken ($6 for small, $8 for medium), which is tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce.
