Open for business: Mitzo Restaurant & Bar, Oriole Coffee + Bar's, Jing Hua Xiao Chi


The 82-seat restaurant at the Grand Park Orchard hotel, which opened last Thursday, offers contemporary Cantonese restaurant as well as artisan cocktails. The restaurant is headed by chef Nicky Ng, former executive chef of modern Chinese restaurant Hakkasan in New York, while behind the bar is Jacek Piasecki, who runs Sling In, a top bar in Helsinki.

Expect dishes such as black truffle crispy duck ($36); grilled silver cod in champagne sauce and Chinese honey ($42); and a selection of dim sum (from $22 for a platter of six to eight items) including baby abalone and pork dumplings, and black fungus and vegetable dumplings.

For drinks (from $20 a glass), there are updated classic cocktails as well as ones that incorporate Asian herbs and spices, including herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine.

After a two-month revamp, Oriole Coffee + Bar's flagship outlet in Somerset reopens this weekend.

The full menu will be ready only next month, but coffee lovers can still get a cuppa from as early as 7.30am before heading to work, at its new Grab & Go counter.

Or wind down on weekends with offerings from its small plates menu, and alcoholic beverages.

The dumpling specialist, which has outlets in Neil and Rochor roads, has opened a third one in Palais Renaissance, an upmarket mall in Orchard Road.

Here, expect its signature dishes including pan-fried seafood and pork dumplings (from $6.50 for six pieces); Chinese pizza ($10.80); noodles with sliced pork and Sichuan vegetable ($8); and a crispy red bean pancake for dessert ($10.50).
